Frequently Asked Questions

Who developed ATN Nutrition technology?

Gary Avignon, a nutrition consultant and psychotherapist who has specialized with nutrition, health, psychological, overeating, and overweight issues since 1989. His extensive resume includes a position as Director of the Weight & Health Risk Management Department of a large multi-specialty medical clinic in Austin.

Is ATN Technology new
?
It has been developed since Gary opened his private practice in 1995. He has utilized current technology with clients since 1998. The data represented in the "results" section of this website was first gathered in 1999.

Is the ATN Nutrition a health or diet program?

Neither. ATN technology is not a typical "one size fits all 'program.'" Instead, the principles that govern weight and health are taught so that the individual can fit his/her idiosyncracies within the parameters of these principles. As a result, each "program" is a customized endeavor.

As these principles are honored, the body quickly begins to return to a state of health. As the body becomes healthier, it manages symptoms, including weight difficulty. As ATN clients truly learn what foods and lifestyle behaviors work for their bodies, and which work against, they understand how to keep their fat switch turned off so they sustain their weight loss for life.

Is the ATN program a high protein or low carbohydrate diet?

ATN Technology is a balanced nutritional approach that is customized for and to each client. It takes your "ATN Rating" (how sensitive you are to carbohydrate), and designs a food plan tailored to your needs, preferences, and lifestyle. Through your experience we determine what your tolerance for carbohydrate and caloric intake is.

We know that the intake of certain healthy fat is essential for optimal health; at the same time, level of fat intake is important since fat is more than twice as calorically dense as protein and carbohydrate.

How much weight can I expect to lose with ATN Nutrition?

ATN clients lose between 1/2 a pound per week and 4 pounds per week depending upon several factors:

  • How much weight they have to lose. Someone who has 100 pounds to lose will typically lose weight more quickly than someone who has 15 pounds to lose.
  • The design of the individual's program.
  • Individual commitment and compliance to the program created through staff/client joint effort.
